What to expect 3-5 year olds combo class.

It’s the 1st day of camp & the best way to help your dancers be prepared is for you to know what you’re getting into. I know if I can feel prepared things usually go more smoothly for my family. I want to give you the same.

I teach dance out of my home. I have an upstairs loft that I have turned into my dance studio. When you get to my house try your best to park out of the way of someone’s driveway.

When you get to the door just come on in & head upstairs. Once I have a few students here I don’t want to run up & down the stairs to answer the door. It feels weird but it is the norm around here.

Upstairs I have chairs set up for parents to stay & watch. I just ask that you take phone calls or conversations outside. There is no way I can be loud enough to be heard over 8 dancers, 8 parents, & our music. Sometimes there are more people plus tap shoes. I am loud but even I have limits.

My 3-5 year olds start with tap shoes. We go to a heart & get a sticker for our right foot. While we are on a heart we do center floor exercises. Some of those are toe taps & boogie woogie. Then we make a train to move us to the barre. At the barre we do shuffles & shuffle variations. Finally we end with if “You’re Happy & You Know It” tap edition.

We move on to ballet shoes. We again go to a heart. This time we sit to build a pretend ice cream sundae. We do floor stretches after we “eat” our ice cream. I have several silly songs that we use to learn the basics of ballet like plie’ & eleve’. We finish off with a listening song. All my kids love it!

Lastly we do tumbling. All the kids sit against the front wall & 2 at a time we go down the mats doing gross motor exercises. These are things like bunny hops, bear walks, & forward rolls. We finish up with “the fish song” it is a super silly song that is so much fun. We get a stamp on our hand & class is done.

Each section lasts about 20 minutes just long enough to learn not long enough to be bored.
