3-5 year olds are seriously some of my favorite classes! They are spunky & the world hasn’t changed them at all. They are who they are unapologetically. We all need to be more like them❤️
Many kids come to dance really excited but once they are actually here they don’t want to leave their adults. Others are happy to leave their adults but demand attention from them the whole time. Lastly are the kids who are happy to just go along. No matter what kind of dancer you have I promise I am good at getting them to engage.
The ones who don’t want to leave their adults I will usually give them some space to let them make the decision to join us. The more I pay attention to them the less they want to come dance. I will encourage them as we do fun things to join us but never push them to join. They are the ones who would benefit from meeting me quietly before classes begin. If you think this might be the case for your dancer let me know. We can arrange that.
The ones that want attention from their adults I try to give them plenty of my attention. It usually helps them to know that I am paying attention & not holler into the lobby at you. These are the ones who benefit from their adults leaving & coming back at the end. Then they can focus on learning not on you. If you think this is the case with your dancer let me know so I can help them change their shoes.
The ones that are just happy to go along I try to give them positive encouragement. I thank them for being happy to be in class. This tends to help the others want to get the same kind of attention. They benefit from being leader in class from leading lines or demonstrating tumbling tricks. If you think this is the case with your dancer I will put them in places to have them help me.
I look forward to see how these classes come together. What kind of dancer do you think you are bringing to class?
